What Are We To Provide?

The sad irony of growing up is how little time we have to build together. When you're young, the days drag on as you wait impatiently for each next milestone but looking back you can see how little we get. Worse yet, our time is divided between work & school, hobbies & chores, ball games & bedtime stories.

How much time does that leave for our families to have a foundation of faith?

We read a verse like 1 Timothy 5:8 that tells us to "provide" and your mind might first jump to the material world: food, shelter, & warmth. You might think about how many hours you're putting in at work to keep food on the table and the lights on.

You might feel alone and overwhelmed at the thought of just one more thing asked of you.

Let me tell you, you're not alone. When you are a part of the Lord's church you have an army behind you. Each day has its battles and as much as we think we can win them, the path to victory is found in Christ.

So let me ask you this: What are we providing? A home that shows that our faith is at the bottom of the list and God gets the scraps if anything is left of me this week? Or can we, together, provide for our families a place of peace and a promise of hope when the world is trying to crush us?

This week, let's make sure we provide for our own, families and neighbors alike, Jesus. No, you can't do it alone but we can do it together.
